Admitted to practice law in the State of Wisconsin, District of Columbia, and the U. S. Supreme Court. Since 1959, has served as Counsel of the Committee on Armed Services, U. S. House of Representatives. Mr. S:l_atinshek served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. vwrsu ; :.-s ~se:~v .ce in World War z%, he commanded a group of 12 LCI(L) ,rips L'R i.3) which participated in. many of the assault landings in the Southwest -ac fic. He was discharged as a Lt. Commander, U. S. Naval Reserve. I-e was called to active duty with the U. S. Navy in 1951, and remained or, active cuty until February 1, 1959. He was serving on active duty in the grade of Cora(ander at the time he accepted his appointment as Counsel to the House Armed Services Committee. Tr-'le or, active duty with the Navy, Mr. Slatinshek was principally ..,signed to duties :.zvolving personnel and legislative matters. Among other things, Mr. Slatinshek was largely responsible for the development and im- plementation of the Dependent Medical Care program for the uniformed services. The concept of this program was later utilized by Congress in providing a Medicare program for all Federal employees. Mr. Slatinshek continued his active Reserve affiliation with the U. S. Navy until December 1, 1969, at which time he was transferred to the retired list in the grade of Captain, USNR.
