SUBJECT: Director's Conversation with Senator Milton Young
Regarding Vote on Symington Amendment
The Director told me today of his phone call yesterday to
Senator Milton Young (R. , N. Dak.) to thank Senator Young for
his assistance in defeating the Symington amendment, which
would have imposed a ceiling on the budget for the
intelligence community. Senator Young commented that he had
taken the matter up in the Republican Policy Committee and noted
with some pride that only three Republicans had voted for the
Symington amendment. He said he hoped this would discourage
Senator Symington from further attacks on the intelligence
community.
