(Unclassified - JMM) Picked up from Miss Lovell, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, a letter from the Chairman to the Director, 25X1 7. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Talked to J. Sourwine, Chief Counsel, Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, in response to his call of Friday and told him that we had had no reporting of the activities of Mr. William Leonard Taub who allegedly handled arrangements for a planned trip by Jimmy Hoffa to Hanoi. 8. (Secret - JGO) Delivered to Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Committee staff, a draft letter to the Director of the Office of Management and Budget for use by Chairman Mahon in reporting the approval and amount of the Agency budget and reserve replenishment to OMB. Mr. Preston told me that he expected that the Chairman would sign the letter during the day. I also briefed Preston on the Soviet grain harvest, Soviet dismantling of ABM launchers, building of nuclear storage facility and "J-bird" testing; Burmese cooperation to curtail narcotics traffic; South Vietnamese pacification program effectiveness; Indian and Soviet combined naval exercises; ChiCom satellite program; North Korean destroyer escort; delivery of supplies by the North Vietnamese; and arms communication and electrical equipment manufacturing by North Vietnamese. 9. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Met with Mr. Norman Cornish, Deputy Staff Director, Foreign Operations and Government Information Subcommittee, and received a copy of an unpublished Committee report from him with the caveat that it not be released outside our office. I gave Mr. Cornish a copy of a Hanoi VNA radio broadcast of 1 October concerning Committee activities. Mr. Colby, Ex. Dir. , has been advised.
