Received a call from about whom Pat Holt of Senate Foreign Relations Committee has been inquiring, was arrested by the Cuban government on 9 February on a charge of espionage. Two trips in June 1970 and May 1971 to Cuba were cited in the charges. See Journals of 28 February and 16 March 1972. 25X1 12. Called Libby Reynolds, in the office of Representative Jack Kemp (R. , N. Y.), and gave her the dates of April 12, 13, 18 or 20 for a breakfast-briefing at Headquarters for Representative Kemp and a half dozen or so of his colleagues. (See Journal of 16 March 1972.) She will be back in touch. 25X1 25X1 13. Spoke with FE Division , and Office of Logistics, concerning the new requirements on excess defense articles imposed by the Foreign Assistance Act of 1971 as cited to the Comptroller General by Senator Case in which staff members of our committees have shown an.interest. We will be furnished with the relevant information when it is drawn together. 14. Jay Sourwine, Chief Counsel, Senate Internal 25X1 Security Subcommittee, called to e the Subcommittee's interest in I I on a standard if, as, and when 25X1 available er the request had been relayed tol dvised that today's Reuter wire item was in error and that had not defected but had been apprehended and espionage charges 25X1 have been filed against him. Mr. Sourwine was advised.
