Approved For Release 2006/11/07: CIA-RDP74BOO415R000200140111-8 25X1 25X1 25X1 JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Monday - 7 February 1972 1. Called J. Sourwine, Chief Counsel, Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, regarding the Agency's position on possible' publication of the testimony which Sourwine referred to us I told him we had discussed the matter with the Director who was very much concerned about possible publication of this testimony and had instructed Mr. Maury to meet with Chairman Eastland on it. I added that our position was still the same as had been stated by Mr. Dulles in his letter to Chairman Jenner on 3 December 1954. Sourwine said he would place a statement in his memorandum to the Subcommittee members on the subject to the effect that the Agency strongly opposed the release of any of this testimony and the Director has instructed his Legislative Counsel to take the matter up with the Chairman. I told Sourwine that this was most appreciated. 2. Informed George Murphy, Joint Committee on Atomic Energy staff, that we had additional information on the construction of the Soviet vessel at Nikolayev and would be in touch with Captain Bauser on this later in the week. Murphy mentioned that in order to accommodate Representative Melvin Price (R., Ill.) who had an Armed Services Committee meeting scheduled for the morning of the 16th, they had scheduled the Director's briefing for 2 p.m. that day. Murphy wanted to check this with us. After it was checked with the Director, I informed Murphy that 2 p. m. was agreeable. 3. Frank Slatinshek, Assistant Chief Counsel, House Armed ervices ommittee, called to ask about arrangements for Defense representatives to join with George Carver and me in trying to straighten out with Chairman Nedzi a problem we had discussed with the Chairman a couple of weeks ago. I told Slatinshek we were ready to cooperate at any time, but' that Defense was supposed to make a date with the Chairman. Ev1 O P /C _ Approved For Release 2006/11/07: CIA-RDP74BOO415R000200140111-8
