Approved For Release 2006/08101 :CIA-RDP74B00415R000200170007-1 13 September 1972 SUBJECT: Senator Edward Kennedv's Inauiries Regarding 1. This afternoon I met with James Flug, Chief Counsel of Senator Kennedy's Subcommittee on Administrative Practice and Procedures of the Senate Judiciary Committee, in response to Senator Kennedy's letter of 18 August 1972 to the Director (copy attached). Mr. Flug asked Mike Epstein, of the Committee staff, who he said had been particularly concerned with the matter in question, to join us. In response to the questions enclosed with the Senator's letter co y also attached), I said that ad been introduced to Mr. U~P~~~~~~~~;6~ Lee Freeman by a mutual friend and that the introduction had come about quite by chance and certainly not on initiative. I said that his contact with Freeman was limited to this one occasion and he could recall nothing of any business conversation or any conversation about the cast iron pipe industry on~ that occasion. I said that in view of this, our answers to the specific questions forwarded by Senator Kennedy were, with the exception of the first, all negative . 2. Mr. Flug asked about the date of the single meeting and I said I understood it was on Thursday, 13 April 1970. He said this was very puzzling because he understood it was in 1972. He checked his calendar and said 13 April 1972 was a Thursday. I said it was possible my note on the matter contained a typographical error and I would be happy to call my office for clarification. He asked that in doing so I also ascertain as much as I could tell him about ackground and experienc ly whether he had ever served in a security capacity or in the cRC, ~~~~~003 CO~IFIDE~T1~(~ Approved For Release 2006/08101 :CIA-RDP74B00415R000200170007-1 Approved For Release 2006/08101 :CIA-RDP74B00415R000200170007-1 Approved Far Release 2006108!01:CIA-RDP74B00415R000200170007-1
