Thursday - 7 September 1972
1. (Confidential - JGO) Messrs. Maury an met with
Mr. Herbert Hoffman, House Judiciary Committee staff, and delivered to
him the letter to Chairman Geller from Mr. Helms concerning H. R. 12652,
the Ervin bill. Mr. Hoffman told us he had talked to the Senate Tu iary,
f nmmitteetstaff people yesterday and learned that Senator Ervin did not
return to the city until yesterday. Pending Senator Ervin's return and
conversations with Chairman Eastland, of the Senate Judiciary Committee,
no action could be taken on the appointment of conferees. It was Hoffman's
recommendation that we touch base with each of the other conferees and
that he himself would talk to Mr. Geller and ascertain his desires concerning
a meeting with the Director or Agency representatives at the first opportunity.
At this point he does not know whether Chairman Geller will convene a
meeting of the House conferees prior to conference or not.
3. (Unclassified - JGO) Met with Mrs. Mattie Swor, in the office
of Representative Speedy O. Long (D. , La. ), and reviewed with her
constituent correspondence fro and gave
her a collection of unclassified items to use in responding to
Mrs. Swor was most appreciative and said that she would take up the matter
of the correspondence from concerning action of Americans visiting
Hanoi with the FBI and the Department of State.
4. (Confidential - MMC) Mr. Robert Blum,. Senate Foreign Relations
Committee staff, visited Headquarters this morning for two hours and
reviewed OSS files on Indochina.
