Approved For Release 2006/0Q1 1 hlh- .qJ7 004158000200200031-0 14 OLC 72-0893 7 August 1972 SUBJECT: Meeting with Jim Cline, Counsel, House Judiciary Committee, Concerning H. R. 12652 1. Messrs. Maury, et with Jim Cline and discussed the materials needed by Mr. i.ne to res and to questions on worldwide dope raised by Chairman Rodino. See Journal of 7 August 1972. 2. Mr. Maury then brought Cline up-to-date on the amendment proposed by Senator Ervin concerning the protection of constitutional rights of Government employees that was added on to H. R. 12652 in the Senate. Cline suggested that in the meeting with Mr. Herb Hoffman, of the Committee staff, which had already been scheduled that it would be well to determine the probable timing of actions that will be taken by the Committee and to ascertain the names of the probable conferees. He told us that Mr. Hoffman had been with the Committee about a year and was a former legislation attorney with the Department of Justice. Since Mr. Cline had no knowledge of the bill himself he did not feel that he was in a position to advise us further with one exception. If after our review of the situation we feel that it is necessary, we should deal directly with Chairman Celler himself and not with intermediate members of the staff. 3. Cline told us that Senator Ervin is a highly respected man not only in the Senate but within the House Committee on Judiciary and that this in itself could condition the handling of the bill within the Committee. sistant Legislative Coun el Distribution: Original - Subject 1 - Chrono CRC, 4/10/2003 OLC/JGO:mmc (8 August 1972) Approved For Release 2006/09/21 : CIA-RDP74B00415R000200200031-0
