SUBJECT Designation of Area. Safety Officers
Investigation and Reporting of Accidents
Reference is made to revised 10 May 1972,
paragraphs b(3) and c, which require operating officials andd,
heads of independent offices to designate Area Safety Officers
who, in turn, are to investigate accidents and submit Accident
Report Form 2632a to the CIA Safety Officer.
2. The Occupational Safety and Health Act and Executive
Order 11612 set stringent requirements for the immediate
reporting of accidents and injuries and subsequent record
keeping procedures. The act also requires that quarterly
and annual reports be submitted to the Department of 1-Gabor.
Prompt reporting of these incidents Is necessary to insure
accurate reports to the Department of Labor. Further, the
accident reports provide Safety Officers and appropriate
interested authorities with information on unsafe practices
and conditions which they, in turn, can correct to develop,
strengthen, and maintain an effective safety program.
