SUBJECT: Conversation with Representative Melvin Price
Re Enhanced Role of the DCI
Briefed Representative Price on the above subject. He
asked a number of questions about how the arrangements would
differ from the present practices and I explained to him that
most of these questions could not be answered at this stage.
Mr. Price foresaw a number of questions in the Congress and
elsewhere about the significance of the new arrangements and I
told him we would try to keep him and his colleagues up-to-date
on developments and rely on their assistance in reassuring the
membership that the new arrangements represented no radical
departure from existing practices which had been worked out over
the years and which had proved generally satisfactory.
