SUBJECT: Director's Conversation with Senator Stennis (D. , Miss. )
Re DDCI
The Director told me today of his conversation yesterday afternoon
with Senator Stennis during which the above subject came up. Senator
Stennis said that he did not plan to actively oppose the nomination of
General Walters, but was quite annoyed with the way the White House
had handled the matter and still would personally have preferred a 25x1
civilian for this position.
