1.1 Called Charlotte Gerber, in the office
of Representative Bill Chappell, Jr. (D. , Fla. ), and gave her an interim
report on the -a se and explained that, while employment
opportunities were severely limited, we were exploring retirement
entitlements and this will take a little more time. She thanked us for
the interim report.
2. 1 1 Delivered an Agency brochure to Ann
Kamstra in Representative Gerald Ford's (R., Mich.) office.

3. 1 Delivered to the office of Representative
Gunn McKay (D. , Utah), two Joint Economic Committee prints on the
Soviet Economy. These had been requested by
of Weber State University.
A package of Soviet maps will be delivered to the
Congressman's offic in the next few days.
Left with Bill Sullivan, in the office
of Senator r Dole. . , an. , a missing portion of
Soviet book which had been omitted from their office copy.
5. I I Talked with Mr. Hugh Durham, Deputy
Chief, Legislative and Legal Section, Department of Justice, about the
inquiry we have received from Representative Edward Koch (D. , N. Y. )
having to do with the availability of personal Agency files. Durham said
the Koch letter had just reached his desk and they had taken no action on
it as yet. I told him we were drafting some language for a reply, but
thought it would be useful to be aware of one another's responses on this.
Durham agreed and said he would be back in touch with us when Justice
has firmed up a proposed answer.

14. 1 1 Later in the day I met with Mr. James
Lowenstein, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, who told
me that the Agency's study on "Aid and Trade Activities of
Communist Countries in Less Developed Areas of the Free World -
1970" does not include figures for Laos, North Korea, North
Vietnam, or Cuba and that without such figures it would be
impossible for the Committee to draw up a meaningful balance
sheet for Soviet economic and military foreign aid. I told
Mr. Lowenstein that I would relay the request.
