Ellender and left word with his personal secretary, Marihelen Horneman,
renewing our invitation for the Senator to visit Headquarters for a briefing
at any time he might find convenient including evenings or Saturdays.
She said she had left a note for the Senator to this effect, but would
make sure to again draw it to his attention.
2. I and I met with Bill Woodruff,

desire to brief Senator Allen Ellender at the first opportunity. I explained
that I had just called at Ellender's office, for the second time in the past

Headquarters for a meeting with the Director and a briefing at his earliest
convenience. See Memo for Record for details.

surprise him and he very much appreciated our providing it. He also
asked me to pass it on to the Defense Department whom he had contacted

7? I I Left for John Marks, on the staff of
Senator Clifford P. Case (R., N.J.), a supply of Agency pamphlets
for use in handling constituent inquiries in response to his request.
8. George Murphy, on the staff of the
Joint Committee on Atomic Energy, called and asked if I would drop by
some time next week to go over some questions with him which he might
propose for the Chairman at the Director's briefing of the Joint Committee
on 24 February. Murphy did mention, however, that he would certainly
be asking the Director about his opinion on certain matters pertaining
to the acquisition of computer technology by the Soviets. I have alerted
both nd Dr. Allen, OER, to the need for backup material
for t e Director on this subject.

10. Received a call from Pat Holt, Consultant,
Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who said he wanted to know what
was going on in Costa Rica. I told him that the recent press reports,
such as the story in the current Miami Herald, were completely unfounded
--that there was no plot for a coup, no official PNG action, and President
Figueres had been quoted in the Costa Rican press as denying the Miami
Herald allegations. Mr. Holt said that in any event he would like to be
brought up-to-date on just what was going on in Costa Rica and I said we
'would be glad to do so and I would be in touch with him tomorrow.
