3. Called Charles Kendrick, Administrative
.Assistant to Senator Peter H. Dominick (R. , Colo. ), by way of followup
to my earlier conversation with him about rules on the part of Colorado
State tax authorities with respect to the tax status of annuities paid
under the CIARDS. Kendrick said he didn't think they had anything
definitive on this as yet, but said he would check and call me back.

Assistant to Representative Robert E. Jones (D. , Ala. ), called to request

of telling people how successful he has been in selling computers to the
Soviets and to the Communist Chinese. Murphy said he understands
the Agency has some information in its reports on the accomplishments
,of the Communist Chinese in the computer field and would like to have
such information as might be available. He said he would also like to

work in the computer field. I told Murphy I would look into his questions
and be back in touch with him.

the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs,
called about the travel of Moose and Lowenstein, Foreign Relations
Committee staff, to Greece. French said Defense has also received a
letter from Chairman Fulbright asking for Defense's cooperation on
this trip. French said he understood the Agency had briefed Moose and
Lowenstein and was interested in any information we could give him
about the purposes of their travel. Mr. Maury talked with French about
our briefing and told him what he knew about the trip.
6. Met with Mr. Ralph Preston, House
Appropriations Committee staff, who told me that the Committee
membership of 31 Democrats and 20 Republicans could remain relatively
unchanged for the coming session of Congress. In any event, changes
in the Democrat /Republican makeup should not affect either the Defense
Subcommittee or the handling of Agency matters. I briefed Mr. Preston
Senator Jack Miller (R. , Iowa) who k f I could give himVa reading
on the Institute that was established

qualifications that the Senator would like to recommend to the Institute.

8. LLM) Met with Paula J. Henry, in the
office of Senator Jack Miller (R. , Iowa), and gave her a suggested
reply for the Senator to send to Mrs. L. W. Croft, who was interested
in the Agency's accomplishments. Miss Henry said our draft was fine
and said when she sent the request to us she was interested in how we
would go about handling it.
