1. Left with Ed Braswell, Chief of Staff,
Senate Armed Services Committee, a Tass radio item commenting on
Senator Stennis' Jackson, Mississippi, speech regarding U.S. policy
in Southeast Asia. Braswell was on his way to see the Senator and said
he would mention it to him.
2. In response to his earlier inquiry, I
left with Scott Cohen, on the staff of Senator Charles Percy (R. , Ill. ), 25X1 C
a blind unclassified memorandum prepared by FE Division on
I told Cohen this information was for
the personal use of himself and the Senator and in no case should it be
attributed to the Agency. Cohen said they would have no need to discuss
it with anyone since they wanted the information primarily to make a
decision as to whether Senator Percy should seel He is
confident the Senator will not see him.
3. Called Ed Braswell, Chief of Staff,
Senate Armed Services Committee, who still has no firm decision
regarding a date for next week's Agency briefing.

6. Met with Mr. Ralph Preston, House
Appropriations Committee staff, and briefed him on the "Caspian
Sea monster" (see Journal item of 18 January 1971). He was most
appreciative. In telling me a little about the highlights of his trip to
the west coast, he said that he had been scheduled for a codeword
briefing at Lockheed but that a scheduling mixup by the military had
prevented his attendance. He requested, if possible, that a briefing
be arranged for himself and Mr. Peter Murphy on the project this
week, has been advised.
Mr. Preston noted, in passing, that he will try once again
during the coming month to schedule some time with me to go over
the volume of sensitive files that he inherited in order to retire,
destroy, or take whatever action is necessary regarding them.

her qualifications appear to be of a nature that would be of interest
to the Central Intelligence Agency.

9. In meeting today with Mr. Ralph Preston,
House Appropriations Committee staff, he told me that Chairman
Mahon will be requesting a briefing in depth on Cuba. Mr. Preston
does not know, at this time, whether Chairman Mahon will want to
include this item in the overall briefing of the Defense Subcommittee
or whether he will want to schedule a separate half-day briefing of
the Subcommittee for coverage of this topic. He will let me know as
soon as he has more definition from the Chairman.
