government possitions. His roles as chief of
the Central Intelligence Agency for nine years,
an' acf`"s xrr'Cyt-1fie Warren Commission,
will be the ones which the public best re-
members.
The younger brother of former Secretary of
State John Poster Dulles, Allen Dulles did
enormously valuable work for the United State?;
in World War II, when he served as European
director of the Office of Startegic Services. In
this role, he managed to put an Allied spy in a
position in the Nazi Foreign Office, giving the
Allies access to every message that left the
desk of Foreign Secretary. Joachim Von Rib-
bentrop.
For his work In World Wax. 11 espionage,
he was decorated for outstanding achievement
by the Belgian and French governments. The
United States government awarded him the
edal of Merit and a presidential citation for =
hese labors.
A graduate of Princeton, University, Dulles
alternated his life between diplomacy, intelli-
gence work, and the practice of law with the
New York firm of Sullivan and Cromwell. He
was the author of a number of books dealing
with foreign affairs and the craft of intelligence,
and particularly on the latter topic it is safe to
predict that he will be, read as a master for
