e have been-,during our resi-
dence here, charmed aid intrigued
to find that Fairfax is one of the
outstanding and unfortunately last
remaining Citadels. of the Confed-
eracy. Such an attitude, which is
quite apparent among real Fairfax
citizens, gives much character and
strength of purpose to the com-
muitity, and, too, provides much
stimulation of thought and historical
interest to many of the relative new-
comers.
As a Conferedate Citadel, Fairfax
conics into its own each year on
the 19th of January which is the
birthdate of General Robert E. Lee.
Fore General Lee's birthday is cele-
brated here, not as a casual histori-
cal fact, but as if it were, a family
affair in the sense that he was a
beloved member of the Fairfax
family and not forgotten. Many of
the weekend pleasures are centered
about a birthday party for General
Lee; outstanding among them will
be the Birthday party planned for
Saturday evening by Mr, and Mrs.
Robert Walker at their home on
Payne Street.
At 8:00 _ o?clocl: in the evening,
many members and guests of the'
United Daughters of the Confed-
.eracy will gather to enjoy a pro- j
grain honoring the memory of Gen-
eral Lee. Mrs. Lafe Allen will sing
outstanding Confederate songs such
as Lorena and Bonnie Blue Flag,
accompanied by Mr. Walter Oliver,
Jr., on the AutoHarp. Mr. Carring-
ton Jones will speak and very mov-
ingiy we are sure for lie is well ,.

traditions of the South, yesterday,
and today. Mrs. calker, amid the
colorful and meangingful decora-
tions of Confederate Flags and red l
crosses will serve her guests, sherry,
sandwiches, coffee and birthday
cake.
Among the members and guests
