Don Whitehead of the Associated Press stated that they have a dispatch
from Berlin an Dr. Otto aohn'a press conference which states in parts
"Asked about his recent trip to the United States, John replied: 'Frost Syr
converaatios at the Pentagon a4d with; Allen Dulles, I gathered that out of
the 4aterical fear in the United States another war is being prepared, and
that the German people would suf'f'er mot from this war. 0

"Asked if he had expressed his doubts about the democracy of Vest Germany
during his talks with D tll as, John said tersely, 'No.' Asked 'Why not? #
eince it was a 'good platform' for that, he replied I ft should have been able

Whitehead would like to sin down s i,th you and suggests that you review
the John situation and again es asise ;that Dr. John had no American secrets
from CIA, and cover somewhat tbok discus rion you had with John. He believes,
and I concur, that an immediate $tatessnt from you, not only to AP but to
the other wire services, would have the right effect, rather than delay until
the John statement gets all the play.
