analyst of Latin American polit
ical affairs for the Central In-
telligence Agency, died Satur-
day at Georgetown University
Hospital after a short illness.
He lived at 3811 N. Vernon St.,
Arlington.
Mr. Markrich taught Spanish
and Latin in the San Francisco
public schools and at the Uni-
versity of California before
joining the CIA in 1952. He re-
ceived a Ph.D. degree in
romance languages, and litera-
ture in 1955 from the University
of California.
Born in Bremen, Germany,
he studied there, in Italy,
Ij ran ce, Holland and Honduras'
efore coming to this country
1940 to teach at the Univer
ty of Washington. He received
law degree from the Univer-
ty of Genoa in Italy.
Mr. Mark-rich became an
merican citizen while serving
n the Army in World War II.
He was a member of the Pan'
merican Union and the Inter-
merican Press Association.
Mr. Ma?rkrich leaves his wife,
ilo; four children, Julia, Mi-
hael, Sandra and Jonathan; his
other, Mrs. Johanna Mark-
ich of San Francisco-, and two
i
sters, Mrs. Mary Schwarz of
I t. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Irene
ischel of Berkeley, Calif.
Services were scheduled for
day at the Washington He-
rew Congregation, with burial
the congregation cemetery.
The family requests that ex-
ressions of sympathy be in
e form of contributions to the
eart Research Fund, George- i
wn University Hospital.
