1. On this date Mr. Dan Rustin, Associate Editor, Publishers'
Weekly, called about my letter of 16 March 1965. He stated,that he
had checked with Bob Rossell and found that the transcript of the
Research and Engineering' Council meeting on computerized typesetting
would not be available until sometime in May. Since Mr. Rustin
wants the information he requested in his letter of March 5, 1965,
to extract for publication in the April 5th edition of Publishers'
Weekly, the sources of information which I suggested in my letter
would not be satisfactory to him. Mr. Rustin therefore asked if he
could have a copy of the talk and any kind of a copy of the slides
by march 24th.
2. I told Mr. Rustin that I would check to see if it was
possible to send him a copy of the talk and of the slides. I
then called Mr. Owen, Editor of PRINTING PRODUCTION Magazine, and
informed him of Publishers' Weekly's request and told him that we
did,not want to give out any information on hyphenless justification
to any magazine prior to his April edition being published.
3. Mr. Owen stated that since Publishers' Weekly's coverage
was entirely different from PRINTING PRODUCTION'S and since Publishers'
Weekly only wanted to extract from the talk given at the conference,
he had no objection to our giving them the information that they
requested.
4. Therefore, since the Agency has already released this in-
formation for publication and is planning to release it to at least
one other magazine (DATAMATION) I feel that Publishers' Weekly
should have the information which they request. This will be sent
to them in a form of Xerox copies of talk and plain 25X1A9a
black and white prints of the slides used to illustrate the talk.
