Joseph Brent of the history
department will lead the Poli-
tical Science Forum's first dis-
cussion of the year next
Thursday, Nov. 19, at 8 p. M.
in the Brafferton.
Brent'" topic will be "Lib-
eralism vs. Conservatism: An
Answer to the Twentieth Cen-
tury."
In his discussion. Brent will
cover the. reversal of the
meanings of "liberal" and
"'conservative" during the past
century.
Points in Brent's discussion
will also include the role of
the two philosophies In past,
ds Poli Sd Forum
present and future. the effects
of the 19G4 election upon the
Republican party, and the in
creasing trend towards fed-
eralism in government.
Brent, now in his first year
at William and Mary, received
his A.B. in history from
Princeton and his Ph.D. from
University of California in Los
Angeles. He has worked for
tho Central Intelligence
Acency for three years and
has also taught at Louisiana
State University in Now Or-
loans.
At the next meeting of the
Political Science Forum, Dec.
2, Anthony L. Sancetta of the
economics department will
lead a seminar on economic
aspects of contemporary life
as related to liberal and con-
servative philosophies.
