And Rug Under Door
Note Indicates Attempt
At Suicide 2 Weeks After
Death of Other Officer
A Central Intelligence Agency
analyst. was found unconscious
in the kitchen of his apartment
today, two weeks after another
CIA officer died of unexplained
causes.
Frederick E. Crockett, 45, was
rushed at, 10 a.m4 today from
the Carillon Apartments, 2500
Wisconsin avenue N.W., to Gal-
linger Hospital in critical condi-
tion.
Signs on his second floor apart-
ment windows: "Danger, Gas-
Do Not Light Matches," attracted
a boy on the street, who notified
the building manager, James
Robertson, leading to the dis-
covery of the stricken man.
Rug Stuffed Beneath Door.
Capt. Richard J. Felber,
homicide squad chief, said jets
of the kitchen range were open,)
and a rug stuffed under the
door.
However, natural gas now
used in Washington homes is
non-toxic, a fact that led police
to search further. They found
two empty medicine vials in the
kitchen.
At the hospital physicians
pumped out the victim's stomach.
He was believed out of danger.
Capt. Felber said a note found
in the apartment pointed to
attempted suicide, but ascribed
no motive. The note asked that
a letter also in the apartment, be
sent to Mr. Crockett's brother.
Certificate' Awaited.

thal, an administrative officer
in CIA, was found dead ii his
apartment at 1662 Thirty-second
street N.W. Found beside the
bed was an empty vial and a
note. A death certificate still
awaits a report on chemical
tests.
CIA officials said they saw
no connection between the cases
and did not believe. the men
knew each other.
However, four CIA representa-
tives went to the Crockett apart-
ment today to help the polic l
investigate.
