Edward P. Foster,
CDead
Edward P. Fo ter Jr., 57, an administrative official of
the- Central Intelligence Agency, died of a liver ailment
Ft'iday in Arlington Hospital. He lived at 4428 N. Ditt-
$-mar rd., Arlington.
Atr. Foster was born in Chi-
cago and grew up in Connecti-
cut, After graduating from
Union College in Schenectady,
N.Y., he studied at the School
of Architecture at Yale Uni-
versity.
While at Yale, he was active
in sports, and captained the
football team. Shortly after he
graduated, he spent several
years there as a coach of the
150-pound football and la-;
crosse teams.'
He served in the Navy dur-j
ing World War II as a lieu-,
tenant commander in the 'Paci
fie, and was awarded the Sil-
ver Star.
When he returned to civilian
life, he operated his own con-
tracting business in Connecti-
cut-for several years before
coming to Washington to join
the Federal Government in
(1951. NI - Mr. Foster was active in
:yachting, and sailed in several
transatlantic and Bermuda
races and was a member of
the Cruising Club of America.
He was interested also in
(amateur radio, and ? held one
of the earliest ? operator's li-
censes. Recently, he was in
charge of the Virginia net con-
trol of the Military Affiliate
? Radio System.
Survivors include his wife,j
Jeannette, and a son, Stephen,
of the home address.
