erts for the state senate. Partisan Vote lv
There were no surprises. The County Republicans chose Con.
gressman "Alvin M. Bentley for
the U.S. Senate by a 22,-1 margin
over Donald S. Leonard, once the
party's candidate for governor.
Bentley carried the state. Demo-
cratic. Senator Patrick J. McNa-
mara, without oppsition, polled
32,443 votes in the county.
An interesting fact was the size
of the Republican vote-perhaps
a look-in for November, when the
Presidential election will swell the
turnout on both sides.
The Republican ballot offered
few choices, particularly in Oak-
land cot}nt Yet the CHOP vote
was hid ar behind theturi it
of Democrats, who had factional
disputes to settle as well as a
string of contested nominations.
Unopposed Republicans in county
offices ran ahead of the Demo.
critic vote in ever yinstan.ce.

nomination by 97votes in a con.

fho said he once directed spy
fligTits over Russia "and who has
been extremely crrtical of U.S.
intelligence efforts, defense plan-
ning, and N fgreign policy, immedi-
ately challenged Broomfield to de-
bate these issues.
"Voters nominated State Senator
L. Harvey Lodge and Donald E.
Adams, Waterfor dtownship jus-
tice of the peace, for the new
probate judgeship. Adams, brother
of Circuit Judge Clark J. Adams,
ran well ahead with 11,112 votes.
