Mr. Denny called from t Ye City Desk of the TIMES-HERALD
with the story that that paper had been approached today by one
who is at present with the Interior Department as
a cart61TR7MFr. He had been with the Agency from October 1911
to July 1952. He reported to the paper that he had become sus-
icious of a fellow worker in CIA, who had strong views which
described as pro-Chinese Communist and that he had reported
i i to his immediate superior and to another CIA official. He
implied that he was quite dissatisfied with the attention given
to his report.
Mr. Denny wanted to know whether we knew anything about'
this. I assured him that I knew nothing of it and that we had
proper machinery within the Agency to take care of this sort of
25X1A9a problem. I suggested that perhaps inspired by the
current publicity, was himself seeking.a share in this publicity
and that perhaps his story ought not be taken seriously.
Mr. Denny replied that he had taken the elementary precaution
25X1A9a of checking on - at his present place of employment and
had got a good impression. I thanked Mr. Denny for bringing
the matter to my attention and said that I would look into the
report. I advised him however that for any further information
25X1A9a he should call
