The attitude of U.S. officials
is that it doesn't matter whether
Wessin leaves or not, so long as
he-no longer commands troops:
But he is so hated by the form-
er rebels, the best guess is that
he will be taking a trip soon.
AID Chief Going to U.S.
Meanwhile, AID Director Alex
Firfer prepared for a trip to
Washington Friday to discuss
plans with high officials for
helping get the Dominican
Republic back on its feet.
President Johnson has made
$20 million available for im-
mediate assistance and the
Dominican Republic has $32
million available from interna-
tional agencies not yet spent.
It also has a $50,000 grant
from the Ford Foundation for'
launching a planning study of'
economy.
U.S. businessmen are begin-
ning to come back here looking
for investments, perhaps to the
tune of another $30 million.
