T''ASHINCTON ST \ 2 MAR 3 1963 Approved For Release 1999/09/17 : Cl)&jWAtt00001 R000400090015-9 6rs' Ex-Wife, Contests Divorce MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga., Mar. 2 (AP).-The former wife of U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers has filed a motion for a new divorce trial. Barbara Powers' lawyer, Rob- ert Greene, said today he filed the motion on February 14 and a hearing has been set for March 15. Mr. Powers was granted a divorce January 16,1 , after testimony that his wife l was "habitually drunk." Mrs. Powers was awarded a $5,000 lump sum payment, plus $500 for attorney fees. No provision was made for alimony. Mr. Greene said Mrs. Powers will claim that Mr. Powers was; not a resident of Georgia and that the Baldwin County Court': had no authority to grant him a divorce. The lawyer said the motion alleges also that the verdict was contrary to evidence. Mr. Powers, now a test pilot for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. in California, spent 20 months in a Russian prison after his re- connaissance plane r' a s brought down in the Soviet Union in May 1960. j Approved For Release 1999/09/17 : CIA-RDP75-00001 R000400090015-9
