1. Francis Gary Powers came to see me today to ask advice regarding
a telephone call from his father. His father said that STATOTHR
wanted to get in touch 5 1 ATV111.

2. I told him of sharpness of mind and somewhat devious
methods of operation, and suggested that he not see - or anyother
literary man or writer, but that to all such requests he say, sorry, he has
many offers to write but is not going to do any writing for sometime to come.

him handle his own business and also to ask if the father went to M or
if 1111111111111111111111went to the father. The latter would be my guess.
4+. Powers said he is not going to do any writing now and he is sorry
if he caused any difficulties over his father's report that he was writing
a book at his own desire to answer the U-2 book of Ross and Wise. He said
he wants very much to go back to the Air Force and believes his writing a
book or doing other writing would certainly be an obstacle and might even
prevent his return to flying status with the Air Force.
5. He was in good spirits and obviously has decided that the decision
not to write is a proper one.
