Iranian
Royalt~ FI!
A Busy.~a:
WHILE her husband, the
Shah, was busy being hon-
ored at lunc)won by Gen.
Matthew B. Ridgway, Eta-,
press Sorays of Iran got an
informal look at some mdrie
of our local attractions yep
terday.
After lunching almost
noticed at La Salle Du Bois
restaurant, the auburn-haired
empress took in a matinee
showing of "Ugetsu," the
.Japanese film at the Dupont
Theater. She and the Shah
are great "fans" of Ameri-
can movies, and plan to in-
clude in their American trip
a visit to some Hollywood
studios.
In the evening, after act-
ing. Secretary. of State Her-
bert Hoover, Jr. had paid an
official farewell call on their
Imperial Majesties at. the
Iranian Embassy, Shah Mo-
hammad Reza Pahlavi and
the Empress went over to
Mr. and Mrs. Hoover's home
on Tracy place for an im-
promotu unofficial cocktail
party.
THE ROYAL COUPLE
spent the latter part of the
evening at the- Shoreham's
Blue Room. In their party
was Assistant Secretary of
State Henry A. Byroade, who
was the first of an undimin-
ishing succession of partners
who whirled the Empress
around the dance floor.
Also among the Shah's
party were Mrs. Byroade,
Ardeshir Zahedi, Maj. Wil-
liam Keyser and Mrs. Key-
ser, Mr. and Mrs. Manuchehr
Garagozlu, Mr. John F. Sim-
mons, Chief of Protocol,' and
Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Roose-
velt.
Her Imperial Majesty So-
raga wore a bouffant skirt
of peach and black brocade,
topped with a black velvet
off-the-shoulder bodice. Mrs.
Caragozlu, lady-in-waiting to
the Empress, chose a Christ-
mas red velvet gown with
short sleeves and squared
neckline. Mrs. Roosevelt's
gown was of green br`oca-de
while Mrs. Byroade's was a
French blue taffeta. In con-
trast to the ladies' medley of
colors, the gentlemen dressed
in conservative black tie.
The cosmopolitan r o y a I
couple felt right at home
with Barnee's 12 roving vio-
linists and the program of
ballet dances. Adding a
touch of real Americana was
prti tyer. V o c a l i s t Tippy
