On $2,500 Bond
In Wife's Slaying
A U.S. Information Agency
employe is free under a $2,500
bond after being charged with,
second degree murder in the
shooting of his wife yesterday at
their home in the first block of
Kennedy Street NE.
Melvin Tibbs, 39, a congres-,
sional liaison assistant with the
agency, appeared yesterday
before U.S. Commissioner Sam
Wertleb, who set the bond and
continued the preliminary
hearing to Dec. 21. Martressa
Tibbs, 32, was shot four times
with a pistol, ; according to
police.
In another case before the
commissioner, Marion B. Sump-
ter, 28, of the 1800 block of
Kendall Street NE, was ordered
held under a $2,000 bond on a
charge of second degree murder
in the stabbing yesterday of
Willis R. Keenan, 40, of the
same address.
Wertleb continued the prelimi-
nary hearing to Dec. 21 after
setting bond. Keenan was
,stabbed during a - quarrel,
according to police, and was
dead on arrival at Casualty
Hospital. -
