Washington. a scene-stealing
winter setting greeted 25 deb-
utantes who bowed to socie-
ty at the 1963 Washington
Debutante Ball last night at
the Mayflower Hotel.
In their ball dresses and
long gloves, all snowy white.
the young women walked
from one white world into
another, and found there
bare tree branches ablaze
with tiny white lights and
miniature dangling irrides-
cents.
The only touches of color
were the red bows tied to two
white satin marqees, support-
ed by frosted forced palms.
The silver whiteness swept
into the dining room, where
tables were lighted by tall
tree-like hurricane lanterns,
their bare white branches
glistening with silver irrides-
cents.
Creator of the frosty magic
In the Mayflower ballroom
was Richard Lee Ridge.
Presented at Midnight
At the stroke of midnight,
the debutantes were present-

ner and dancing to Lester
