Mc- ding was allowed on the job. It. Closkey, who is. the Democratic Party's chief fund raiser, than they are to call in White House assistant Walter Jenkins. It already has been established that Mr. McCloskey, who made a fortune in contracting jobs for the federal government, has-had deal- ings with Bobby Baker. The nature of these dealings never has been thoroughly explored. The public should know that Mr:. McCloskey has raised more -than $30 million for the Democratic Par- ty in his years as Democratic Par- ty Treasurer. ? The public also should ,k1-.3w that Mr.'- McCloskey has prospered enormously during.. I the Du.:. oats on the Senate simply was handed to Mr. Mc- Closkey shortly after he did such a good job as Democratic treasur- eir. The GeneraL?Services-Adminis- tration admits it has no record of'. a previous occasion on which com- petitive bidding was not allowed on a major Washington project. This is only ? one of several unusual government projects from which Mr. McCloskey has profited hugely. The Democrats aren't will- ing to have hearings on any of these McCloskey activities. With the Democrats on the Rules Committee so unwilling to call key witnesses, the, public .can only con elude that some dirty work is be- :now where bodies are buried.
