German news agency ADN.
But then, the CIA isn't
working for Was iif ngton ei-
ther, the ADN expose indi-
cates, for the _C'IA .is sending
data about Soviet secrets to
the Soviets.
As ADN reported it, an East
German whom the CIA alle-
gedly tried to recruit as a se-
cret agent told all in a Christ-
mas Day interview on East
German television.
The man "thought in Ameri-
ca until now to be an- agent in
reality Is not," ADN said. It~
added that the man was re-
cruited by a letter from Bre-
men, West Germany, promis-
ing gifts.
One gift was a chocolate
bar containing money and in-
structions for sending code;
messages about Red military
Installations. Another was a
teddy bear which arrived by
mail last Christmas.
Inside the bear, the agency
said, were "details and pie-
tures of aircraft, tanks and ve;
hicles.of the East German and
Soviet armies."
The agency did not make
clear why the CIA would send
an East German such data
rather than vice versa.
Arrest in Heidelberg

Bonn sources about West Ger-
many's latest Red spy story,
involving a German student
and a Russian diplomat.
The student, identified. only
dark alley near Heidelberg's - '-??
university. The Russian was
identified as Jakob Stephano
vich Barssukov, who allegedly
paid Peter R. $225 for informa
tion on U.S. Army's European
headquarters in the city. . .
The sources said Barssukov'
told Peter R. to filch the se-
crets by romancing ' German
girls working at headquarters.'
He dangled before Peter the!
vision of a new car.
After Peter's arrest, the[
