I was extremely pleased to read Sen.
Eugene McCarthy's article on the CIA Y
[THE CIA Is GETTING OUT OF HAND,
Jan 4-11] and interested to note that,
among the CIA's various shady activi-
ties, he mentioned the fall of the
government of Iran's Premier Moham-
med Mossadegh in 1953. Programs
such as the Peace Corps and the billions
spent on foreign aid will do little good
as long as the CIA is allowed to under-
mine the image of the United States as
a proponent of self-determination and
democracy. MRS. JANICE SHADMAN
Champaign, W.
? Thank goodness someone had the
courage to challenge the all-powerful-
all-knowing Central Intelligence
Agency. CATHERINE R. BEAR
Pensacola, Fla.
o A runaway national agency has gal-
loped of with the function of policy-
making. It has sabotaged a high-level
peace conference, planned and directed
the invasion of a neighboring country,
and involved our sons and tax dollars
in dubious cloak-and-dagger activities
around the world. Senator McCarthy
is to be commended for his courage in
Ann Arbor, Mich.
