have arrested a young British
teacher named Gerald Brooke
and filed a. charge of an undis-
closed nature against him, a
British Embassy spokesman
said today.
The London Daily Mail said
Brooke was held on . espionage
charges, but the embassy said it
"has not been told the precise
nature of the charge."
The spokesman said the
Russians have not answered two
embassy requests for permis-
sion to see Brooke.
He was arrested Monday when
Soviet police broke into an
apartment. His wife was present
apd notified the embassy.
