The charge was made by
the self-described double
agent, Arthur Burchinshaw,
'33. Mr. Burchinshaw was
freed from Stadelheim Prison
in Munich yesterday after be-
ing held for 21 weeks on
suspicion of spying.
Until last March 31, when
he was taken into custody by
American policemen and
handed over to West German
officials, Mr. Burchinshaw
had represented a London
"made-to-measure" tailoring
firm on an American army
post near Munich.
He said yesterday he had
been approached in Munich
by a Russian. who had asked
him to use his position at the
base to .spy for. the Soviet.

Mr. Burchinshaw. said he
was "thunderstruck" when.

The arrest was announced
more than three months later,
after he wrote to his member
of Parliament protesting his
innocence.
Yesterday, the chief Bav-
arian state prosecutor ordered
Mr. Burchinshaw's release,
following receipt of a com-
munication from the U. S.
military. The contents was
not. disclosed.
Mr. Burchinshaw said he ;
was considering a suit against ..
