EDITOR: Where We can we turn? At the end of World War II;
I was so proud of my country I was ready to bust. True, it seemed
the concessions made to the Communists were excessive, but "the
,.Government knows what it is doing". Then the almost unopposed
,Communist take-over of China made inc wonder. Our ignoble "po-
,lice action" and truce in Korea shook my confidence badly, and
,when we turned our backs on the Hungarians after encouraging
them to revolt, my'respect for most of the people in Washington
dropped to zero..W'hen we pulled the rug from under the Cubans
at the Bay of Pigs, I felt sick.
By now, of course, when the.CJ.Aww; 'addenly "discovered" the
rockets in Cuba, after several. months of warnings in the U.S. -pa
pers, nobody seriously thought we would do anything about it, and
we didn't. These and other reversals have been forecast and ig?
nored by our "leaders in Washington;" time and again concessions
and/or made almost daily. The cries now are, "build another canal";
`"Let them have Viet Nam; it's not important anyway". Take it
easy, status government, give a little. Better than to take a chance
on war. All of which boils down to, "Better Red than dead".
