SUBJECT: LOS ANGELES TIMES Didn't Like Kraslow Story
1. This memorandum is for information.
2. David Kraslow, Washington Bureau, LOS ANGELES TIMES, telephoned
today to ask if he would be correct in saying that the Soviet KGB was
responsible for functions that included not only foreign intelligence,
as with CIA, but also had some domestic powers, as does the FBI.
3. He said that when the LA TIMES ran his story relating Senator
McCarthy's plan to introduce a bill for a Joint Intelligence Committee
to be a watchdog for CIA, the paper, on the editorial page, threw some
cold water on the plan. Kraslow said the LA TIMES did not think too well
of the plan. He further said he thought that Re ldn Congressman
Glenard Lipscomb of Los Angeles County, may well have had some irif'Iuence
onthe TA TIMES in taking this position.
1. Mr. Kraslow said he understands that Senator McCarthy will today
introduce his bill in the Senate.
