125X1 A9a 25X1.A9a MEMORANDUM FQR Director of Central Intelligence : ' Forthcoming Books of Interest to CIA 1, This memorandum is for information only to invite your attention to certain books of interest. to CIA scheduled for publication during the next few months, 25X1A9a 2, Th Case by Guy Richards is announced for September publication. It was originally to have been published by another publisher late in 1965 but it has not yet appeared. The publisher's blurb states that "has given the CIA an impressive list of Communist agents, including 19 Americans, who have been or are pre- sently working in high places to aid the USSR. Cu Richards, editor of the World-Journal-Herald, has tracked down the story 25X1A9a against formidable opposition." The publisher is Devin Adair. 3. Washington Expose by Jack Anderson should be available shortly. It includes a chapter entitled "Spies and Spooks" which may possibly include the type of material which has appeared in his column .with Drew Pearson recently. The publisher is Public Affairs Press. 4. Secret Service: Thirty-Three Centuries of Espionage is a re-issue of the late Richard W. Rowan's excellent comprehensive history of the subject originally published in 1937, now up-dated by Robert Diendorfer. The book will contain an introduction by Allen Dulles and is scheduled for November publication by Hawthorn Books. 5. The Codebreakers by David Kahn is announced for publication on 21 November by Macmillan. This is the comprehensive history of cryptography of which you are already aware. ' Advertising is scheduled in the New York Times Book Review and in scientific media. 6. A 95d paperback -edition of T1ia Penkovskiy Papers is announced for November publication by Avon Books, The blurb notes that the book has been a national bestseller for 5 months and hails Penkovskiy'as "the FOIAb3lreatest spy of our time."
