Nolting Resignation
Accepted With Regret
Washington, March 19 UPI-Dean'
.Rusk, Secretary of State, has ac-
cepted the resignation of Frede-
rick E. Nolting, Jr., from the
foreign service with "deep regret
and reluctance."
I The State Department made
,public today a letter Rusk had
written on March 9 to'Nolting in
,response to the diplomat's Febru?
ary 25 request that he be granted'
retirement.
Nolting, as reported yesterday,
plans to enter private business.'
He was United States Ambassa
dor to South Vietnam for more
;than two years, preceding Henry
Cabot Lodge, the present envoy,
at Saigon.
Nolting has served the United
,States "in an outstanding man-
;nor," Rusk wrote. The diplomat,'
Rusk's letter said, has carried out
his task "with distinction."
In making public Rusk's letter,
the State Department press of-
ficer, Richard I. Phillips, told a'
news conference that Nolting con'
tinues his activities on the Intel-1
ligence Review Board and he will,
"probably not sever his rela-j
tions with the Government before
later this spring."
