of the Niarchos group have in commission or under construction
27 superbly equipped, craft totalling more than 800,000 tons.
A sketch of the personality who heads the concern is given in
an article entitled "Odyssey of a leading Greek shipowner."
It tells,how Niarchos, who in 1946 owned two tramp steamers
in the Piraeus, arose to become one of the leading figures in
the shipping world. He realized that bigger and bigger oil
tankers were the key to world transport-and incidentally a
huge fortune.
