said that you desired a copy of the transcript that
Congressman Ostertag furnished certain media and to us covering his interview
with Mr. Dulles. Attached hereto is a copy of the original transcript as
released by Ostertag to the United Press, Associated Press., U.S. NEWS &
WORLD REPORT, WHAM-TV in Rochester, WBENTV in Buffalo, and WCNr TV in
Watertown, New York. The only other copy distributed by Congressman Ostertag
was to CIA.
Mr. Dulles made one change on page 5 of the original so that the next
to the last paragraph on that page now reads as follows: "That's a tough
one. Let me put it this way. The Chinese Communists are building up their
strength in that part of the world opposite Formosa. They're building
airfields, they're bringing in more troops, and they are in a military
position where they might try to attack some outposts. Whether they will
do it or not--that's another question."
It is important that this original copy be not circulated since it
differs regarding Formosa from the copy corrected by Mr. Dulles.
