"It seems to me there Is a
'cry strong connection between
Chrushchev's ouster and the
enkovsky case," Wynne said
14, an interview.
4Iatred of Khrushchev and his
nlicies' and entourage was a
trong motivating factor in
enkovsky's decision to spy for
he West, Wynne, a British
usinessman, pointed out.
HE SAID that Penkovsky's
isclosures to British and
mcrican intelligence of Krush-
.hev intentions in the 1961
erlin crisis and 1962 Cuba
nissile crisis reflected the feel-
ngs of many highly placed
Soviet officials against the for-
ner leader.
Wynne also said the service
o the West provided, by Pen-
ovsky is being carried on by
ethers like him inside the
remlin today. "There are cer-
ainly many more," he said.
"Penkovsky was not the only
ne. You'd never have heard
about him If he hadn't been;
caught. Unless they are caught,!!
you won't hear of the others(
Publication of details about
private activities of high Rus-
sian leaders will result in a new
shakeup in Moscow, he predicts.
"IT SEEMS to me a lot morel
people are going to lose their
jobs now," he said. "I could
give you a few Moscow ad-
dresses where I would like to
see copies of the Penkovsky
papers sent."
Wynne branded as "nonsense"
statements in Time magazine
and other publications implying
doubts about the authenticity
of the papers, or, suggesting
that the U. S. Central Intelli-
gence Agenc ) had ar-.
ranged their u ication.
He said CIA officials "seemed
annoyed" about the forthcom-l
ing book when they questioned h
him last summer about how the[
papers got out of Russia. Hey
said he had nothing to do with j
the transmittal. I
Wynne said he immediately',
recognized Penkovsky's mate-
rial when editor Frank Gibney j
showed him the papers, ho{
ever.
