A SPY SCANDAL THAT
ROCKED THE KREMLIN
Z Q$,CL ,?-The biggest spy scandal
in years was giving the Kremlin a head-
ache at the end of May.
Marshal Sergei S. Varentsov, Red
Army artillery and rocket chief, was
dismissed and stripped of his rank. The
charge: that he was ' linked to activities
of Oleg Penkovsky, recently executed
as a spy for the U. S. and Britain.
