Mrs. Ruth- Redmond, 65,,returned to New York yes-
terday and said the Red Chinese didn't allow her to stay
with her son for his 44th birthday last Tuesday because
her visa expired two days before.
They made a concession by allowing .her to have
dinner with him in the jail's reception room two days
before. As an even more generous concession they al-
lowed their prisoner to choose the menu. His selection
was roast chicken, an item not included in the usual
prison fare.
The gray-haired widow said her son's Chinese
jailers gave her 12 strict rules to follow and threatened
no more visits if she broke just one. The most distressing
