SUBJECT: Telephonic Approvals by the 40 Conunit:tee
SAFSS Forecast
The SA'FSS forecast for April 1971 was telephonically approved by
the 40 Committee on 1 April with the following modifications:
a. All overflights Icontinued to be
stood down, but the proposed Photo and SIGINT IDEALIST/TACKLE
25X1 missions were approved with the un

b. The proposed TAGBOARD mission was not approved for t:he
month of April.
c. The GIANT SCALE SR-71 mission over North Korea was approved
subject to prior examination by CIA of the actual track and
validation of intelligence requirements.
d. Resumption of ULD HEAD U-2 flights was subject to approval
by higher authority because of a probable Cuban intercept
attempt on an OLD HEAD mission on 18 March. On 5 April
197..1, higher authority approved one OLD HEAD mission which
was flown without incident. Subsequently, the 40 Committee
telephonically approved resumption of weekly OLD HEAD
overflights commencing on 8 April.
e. The SENIOR LANCE proposal for U-2
