SUBJECT: Seat Kit Contents and Survival Gear Listings
1. I Iwhile discussing various aspects of
interest at was informed by that the 25X1
pilots were carrying similar survival equipment attached to
the outside of their flight suits. See paragraph 4a. of
attachment.

items to t

he pilot, greater
flexibility, and yet preclude attaching any survival items
to the outside of the flight suit or harness.
2. I think your best approach to this might be to start
out with mandatory items, according to Headquarters, for
inclusion in the survival kit; plus the highest priority items
from the pilot's view point and fill the kit until it is
either full or until it has reached the approximate maximum
weight of 50 pounds. Then study all items in the kit carefully
to see if the weight of any items can be reduced without
deleting them or degrading their effectiveness and substitute
additional items as weight and/or space is saved.
3. Request a recommendation be prepared for my review
not later than 29 January and I I approval on
4. Furthermore, request that this proposal be agreed
upon by 0 Detachment personnel as well as Headquarters
and if any point is unresolved, be prepared to bring these
points to the attention of D/FA for resolution. For my own
interest, after you have solved this problem I would appreciate
you redrafting the attachment and note in a column, in the
right hand margin of the page, the exact weight, within a 10th
of an ounce, of each item.
