Approved For Release 2004/01/14: CIA-RDP75B00380R000100040005-6 h fly'"a EY 25X1 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Thursday - 6 December 1973 Page 2 4.1 Met with Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Committee staff, and reviewed with him the correspondence relating to SLUC. In brief, it would be his opinion that the Agency should take whatever measure necessary to avoid coming under the jurisdiction of GSA and-thn Public Works- Committee with regard to Agency properties. 1T eviewed with him the Director's correspondence with Judge Sirica and Senator Proxmire's news release on NRO last weekend. I also responded to his questions concerning the Wall Street Journal item on SAT, the Evening Star item on Agency use of journalists, and a Washington Post item on the tapping of Russian car telephones. I reviewed with Preston the NASA response to Representative Robert Tiernan (D., R.I. ) concerning coordination between NASA and DOD on space activities. He told me that in addition to the.original alert he had received from me he has also given Chairman Mahon a note on the current inquiry from Tiernan to DOD. Chairman Mahon has not spoken to Tiernan about the matter nor has Tiernan made any direct inquiry to the Chairman. Preston does not believe that Chairman Mahon will support Tiernan in his request for information on cost and duplication of space activities between NASA and DOD. He thanked me for the Director's quick response concerning Chairman Mahon's request for specific information of a Navy-related matter, but told me he will still be tied up until the first of the week. He would hope he would 25X1A be able to meet with Warren Magnusson and me at that time. He noted also that he is cognizant of the fact that a couple of items 25X1A may be trouble for us and that he would hope to meet with me and as soon as possible, probably late next week on these matters. 28?1A 5. I I At the suggestion of Ted Shackley, talked to WH Division, about the availability of one of our employees for 25X1A a particular assignment abroad. I said WH Division would like to accommodate this request and I gather he felt this assignment would be in the Agency's interest. The employee involved will return from overseas shortly 25X1A after the first of the year and will be back in touch with us at that time. 25X1 C I attempted to reachl to bring him up to date on this but he is out of town until Monday. I will talk to him about this at that time. Approved For Release 2004/01/14: CIA-RDP75B00380R000100040DU5-610/27/2003
