7. Called Forest Reece, Senate Agriculture
and Forestry Committee staff, regarding his request for a briefing of Senator
Bellmon along with himself and Carl Kettler, of Bellmon's staff. I told Reece
I thought we could do this but would need to check on the staff's security
clearances. He said Kettler had a DOD clearance and that he had been cleared
in 1969 in connection with his position at the Department of Agriculture. I
told him I would check on the clearances and come back to him with some
suggested dates for the briefing, probably not until early next week.
8. I I I advised Bill Woodruff, Counsel, Senate Appro-
priations Committee, that the Defense Communications Agency would be
appearin?; before the National Capitol Park and Planning Commission on
28 February to discuss a sensitive project. I merely wished to keep him
advised as to our progress.
I told Woodruff that Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Committee
staff, had asked for a staff briefing on the Agency budget- perhaps next week
and we wondered if the situation had crystalized on the Senate side with
respect to the roles that will be played by Guy McConnell and Jim Calloway.
Woodruff said the situation was still somewhat up in the air but if we had
a briefing next week that perhaps all three of them would participate. I
told him I would be back in touch with him.
