MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Mr. Colby's Briefing of the Special Group of House
Appropriations Committee - 4 June 1973
1. This afternoon Mr. Colby appeared before the Special Group of
House Appropriations Committee to give them a brief outline of his personal
background and to bring them up-to-date on Agency involvement in the
Watergate matter. The meeting lasted from 1400 hours to 1600
hours.

5. The Chairman requested this meeting in order to meet with
Mr. Colby at this time before his confirmation to get acquainted with
him and to touch on a few particular topics that are of particular interest
to him at this time: Watergate; the Indochina situation; and a broad brush
of Mr. Colby's plans for the Agency. At the conclusion of the meeting,
which was held to two hours due to the press of other business, Chairman
Mahon pointed out that he would like to meet with Mr. Colby when time
is available to review both the Agency and intelligence community budgets
in some detail and other world affairs but that these could have to wait a
later date.
